Mt. Gox – widely considered the largest bitcoin exchange at the time – was the victim of a hack that saw over $400 million in BTC funds disappear practically overnight. To this day, many questions regarding the hack have gone unanswered, and Mark Karpeles, CEO of the exchange, ultimately spent over a year in a Japanese jail for his alleged role in the scandal. This hack pales in comparison to the MT Gox incident. Partly because Bitcoin exchanges are more professional now, have decent security, insurance funds and real commitments. But it's also because this hack is actually relatively small. Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles’ assets were frozen, whilst Mt. Gox was sued for negligence and fraud. But Binance has pledged to cover the loss when it opened up about the attack. Bitcoin reorg is just not happening and it was never considered as an option in the past.
